How Long Does Collision Repair Take? A Realistic Timeline from Our Apple Valley Shop
Some repairs take a day, others take weeks. Here is what really drives the timeline, from insurance approvals to parts, and how we keep you updated.

"When will my car be ready?" is the first question almost every customer asks, and the honest answer is: it depends. A scraped bumper can be done in a day or two. A car with structural damage and back-ordered parts can take several weeks. Here is what actually drives the timeline, so you know what to expect when you bring your car to Fix Auto Apple Valley.
Typical ranges
- Minor cosmetic damage (small dents, scuffs, a bumper cover): often 1 to 3 days once parts are in.
- Moderate damage (a door, fender, or bumper replacement with paint): commonly about 1 to 2 weeks.
- Major or structural damage (frame work, multiple panels, airbags deployed): several weeks, mostly depending on parts and approvals.
These are general ranges, not promises. Your estimate will include a timeline for your car, and we update it if anything changes.
The five things that set the timeline
1. Insurance approval
If insurance is paying, the adjuster has to approve the estimate before major work begins. We send photos and the estimate right away and follow up. Our insurance claim assistance covers how we handle this.
2. Hidden damage and supplements
Once a damaged area is taken apart, we often find broken brackets, bent supports, or damaged sensors that were not visible at first. We document them and get a supplement approved before repairing them. This is normal, and it is better than skipping damage you cannot see.
3. Parts availability
This is the biggest variable. Common parts often arrive within days. Some parts, especially for newer models, come from a regional warehouse or are on back order. We order as soon as the repair is approved and tell you if anything is delayed.
4. Structural and safety work
If the frame or unibody is damaged, it is measured and returned to factory specifications on our frame equipment, and that work cannot be rushed. See structural and frame repair. Repairs follow the manufacturer's published procedures, which are what keep your car safe in a future collision.
5. Paint and finishing
Color matching, painting, and curing happen in our paint booth, followed by reassembly, a quality check, and cleaning. Learn more about paint and refinish.

How we keep you in the loop
You will not have to chase us for updates. We text or call when your car moves through each stage and let you know right away if a part is delayed or a supplement is pending. Many of our reviews mention how often we finish early; when we can, we will.
Common questions
Can I drive my car while waiting for parts?
Sometimes, if it is safe and legal to drive. We will tell you honestly. If lights, airbags, or structure are affected, it should stay with us.
Why did my timeline change?
Usually because of hidden damage found during teardown or a parts delay. We will explain exactly what changed and why.
Does my rental cover the whole repair?
That depends on your policy's rental coverage. We coordinate the dates with your insurer so the rental lines up with the repair as closely as possible.
