Getting Around the High Desert While Your Car Is in the Shop: Rentals and Shuttle Rides

In the High Desert, distances are long and public transit is limited. Being without a car for even a few days can be a real problem. The good news: with a little planning, you can stay on the move while your car is being repaired. Here is how rentals and our shuttle service work at Fix Auto Apple Valley.

Our local shuttle

Need a ride home after you drop off your car, or a way back when it is ready? We offer a local shuttle service for customer drop-off and pickup. Just let us know before your visit so we can schedule it. Customers mention it in their reviews; it is one of the small things that makes a stressful week easier.

Rental car help

If you need a car during the repair, we can help coordinate a rental through nearby Enterprise or Hertz locations. Depending on the rental location and availability, the rental can often be picked up or dropped off right at our shop. Details are on our shuttle service and rental car assistance page.

Who pays for the rental?

It depends on your situation:

  • The other driver was at fault. If you file a claim with their insurer and they accept liability, they are generally responsible for a reasonable rental while your car is being repaired.
  • You are using your own policy. Rental is covered only if your policy includes rental reimbursement coverage. It usually has a daily limit and a maximum number of days.
  • No insurance claim. You would arrange and pay for the rental yourself; we can still help you set it up.

Rental charges and coverage depend on your rental arrangement and your policy, so check with your insurer. If you are not sure what you have, call them before your appointment, or ask us and we will help you figure out what to ask.

Make your rental last as long as your repair

  • Start with a photo estimate so we can plan the repair and order parts early.
  • Do not pick up the rental too early. Ideally it starts the day you drop off the car.
  • Stay in touch. We coordinate dates with your insurer and update you if a part is delayed or hidden damage needs approval, so your rental can be extended before it runs out.

Planning checklist before drop-off

  1. Check whether your policy has rental reimbursement, and the daily limit.
  2. Tell us if you need the shuttle, a rental, or both.
  3. Bring your claim number, keys, and any wheel lock key.
  4. Remove valuables, garage door openers, and toll transponders.
